Dr. Shaunette Parker is an experienced classroom teacher and has worked with non-profit community-based organizations for more than 15 years. Her experience has taught her the importance of genuinely applied, experiential learning resulting in positive outcomes for youth and society. She firmly believes people require a specific set of resources that will enable them to be contributing members of society. Thus, she is passionate about supporting dedicated educators, as they provide engaging learning experiences both in and out of the classroom.
Dr. Parker has been able to use her education experiences to make a positive impact on education. As the High School to College Coordinator for the Alternative High School Initiative (AHSI), she worked with a diverse group of schools. She had the pleasure of engaging with 11 different member organizations (258 schools nationwide) to help career and college counselors increase their capacity to prepare, matriculate, track and support student’s post high school plans and success. She had the privilege of leading professional development opportunities and conducting research geared toward expanding knowledge on proper career and college counseling. As facilitator of the career and college workgroup she guided the focus not only on the academic preparation necessary for college matriculation, but also the tacit knowledge students need to be successful. Through research and tested practices, the career and college workgroup were finding that students are most successful if they have had opportunities to develop tacit knowledge competencies through experiential learning. As the Director of Mission and Strategic Coaching for the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina, Dr. Parker supported the growth and development of charter schools through professional development services for school leaders and teachers.
Dr. Parker emphasizes that it is her experience in out-of-school time programs and proven research practices that has shaped her philosophy and approach to teaching and training. A native of Indiana who now resides in Aiken, she is also a published children's book author, wife and mother of six. Dr. Parker holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Telecommunications from Indiana University, a Master’s of Science in Community Psychology from Martin University, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Psychology from Walden University.
